New trainees – Linda, Cornelius and Naomi

New trainees – July 2015

These are questions that Vikram Devaraj asked the trainees on the plastic and reconstructive surgery training programme at CoRSU Hospital, when he went out there in July 2015.

Linda Josephine Katusabe

  1. Why do you want to do plastic surgery?

I have always found plastic surgery intriguing.  Doing plastic surgery will provide me with the knowledge and necessary surgical skills that are not limited to a single surgical discipline, to help improve function and quality of life of children and other people living with various forms of disability.

  1. How has Interface helped you?

Interface sponsored my trip to the Interburns Training Centre in Choitram Hospital, Indore, India, where I had 4 weeks training in the management of burns (October 2014).

Interface has supported some visiting lecturers who have come in to teach and mentor us.  Visiting lecturers include Mr Vikram Devaraj and Mr Marc Swan.

  1. What stage are you in your training?

I am in the second year of plastic surgery residence (MMED PRS II).

Cornelius Masambu

  1. Why do you want to do plastic surgery?

The unmet need for reconstruction is great, and plastic surgery is central in many surgical settings.  I hope to help in reducing the unmet need – this has now become my passion.

I also need to use my skill to earn my income and meet my needs.

  1. How has Interface helped you?

Interface has helped us with equipment – a laptop and camera, which helps in my training.  This makes it easy for me to access the electronic reading material.

I have just started the training and have not yet interacted with many plastic surgeons as yet, but I believe that Interface creates opportunities for networking.

We also have opportunities to get trained by good surgeons identified by Interface.

  1. What stage are you in your training?

I am a first year trainee.

Big thanks to Interface.

Naomi Leah Kekisa

  1. Why do you want to do plastic surgery?

I am very intrigued by the art of moulding and hope to put my interest to use as a plastic surgeon.

I have an interest in working in Africa, so I hope that by training as a Plastic Surgeon I will be relevant especially to the disadvantaged African population.

  1. How has Interface helped you?

Through Interface, we have been able to have very good visiting plastic surgeons to come to CoRSU and train us.

  1. What stage are you in your training?

I am in the second semester of my first year of training.
