Our annual information evening was held at 7pm on Friday 22nd July 2011 in the Princess Elizabeth Lecture Theatre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford site). Our brilliant guest speaker was Marc Swan – Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Oxford, who visited Uganda for 3 months in 2010, working with Andrew and Sarah Hodges. He made a very thought-provoking presentation about Uganda, its varied hospitals and how much need there is for reconstructive surgery out there. He described some incredible patient stories, which really displayed how difficult life can be in Uganda with any type of disability, and how sometimes some very simple surgery and rehabilitation can be so life-changing for people. Thank you so much to Marc for taking the time to prepare and deliver such an inspiring talk.
We also ‘launched’ our new website, which you are looking at now!
Karen Devaraj (volunteer administrator) and Helen Anderson (trustee and fundraiser) gave an update on how Interface Uganda is helping, and future plans for the charity, so look for regular updates and reports to see what is happening.
Jackie and Tim Fowler gave a short presentation about ‘The Vatternrundan’ – a big cycle ride in Sweden. With lots of generous sponsorship, they raised around £1,000 for Interface Uganda.
Thank you to everyone who came along and supported this event.
