Course participants practising suturing
I grew up outside the UK, but studied medicine at Liverpool University. Always with a view to working in a developing country, I did a mixture of SHO jobs in A&E, surgery, obstetrics and finally settled for anaesthesia. After meeting Andrew, we moved to Uganda to work with a Church of Uganda Hospital where all our medical skills were put to the test. We returned to the UK in 1998 and continued our training in the SouthWest. Since being back in Uganda from January 2005, I have worked with Andrew both in Kampala and upcountry. Since October 2011, I am working at the International Hospital, heading up the Anaesthetic department. I have also been back to Mengo hospital to help them set up their new theatre block. I still work with Andrew on his upcountry visits which help to keep my priorities in focus.
