Course participants practising suturing
On occasion, articles written by volunteers or trustees from Interface Uganda are published in medical journals.
Sarah Hodges has written a very interesting piece in Anaesthesia News (Dec 2005) about the history of her and her husband (Andrew Hodges) involvement in Uganda, the start of their charity, and some of the clinical problems they encounter whilst living and working there.
Although not a medical journal, The Royal Devon and Exeter hospital has its own short news journal. In the November 2007 edition, it has a story about a visit to Uganda by Vikram Devaraj (consultant plastic and reconstuctive surgeon) and David Burdon (occupational therapist in the plastics rehabilitation team). Page 1 has a photo of Vikram, and page 3 has a photo of David Burdon and the article. It is an interesting peice, talking about the difficulties experienced in performing surgery safely without much equipment; about some of the types of patients seen, and their difficulties in getting to be seen.
